Dr. Seuss Blog Hop!

It's Dr. Seuss Day!

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Dr. Seuss! We are so happy you dropped by to celebrate his birthday with us. He was a wonderful highly revered children’s author who many of us learned to read by. The quote below is taken from a Wikipedia entry about his life. I myself (Teresa)  am so thrilled to have had the privilege to teach about him during my years as a school teacher.

“In May 1954, Life magazine published a report on illiteracy among school children, which concluded that children were not learning to read because their books were boring. Accordingly, William Ellsworth Spaulding, the director of the education division at Houghton Mifflin who later became its Chairman, compiled a list of 348 words he felt were important for first-graders to recognize and asked Geisel to cut the list to 250 words and write a book using only those words.[33] Spaulding challenged Geisel to "bring back a book children can't put down." [34] Nine months later, Geisel, using 236 of the words given to him, completed The Cat in the Hat. It retained the drawing style, verse rhythms, and all the imaginative power of Geisel's earlier works, but because of its simplified vocabulary, it could be read by beginning readers. The Cat in the Hat and subsequent books written for young children achieved significant international success and they remain very popular today. In 2009 Green Eggs and Ham sold 540,366 copies, The Cat in the Hat sold 452,258 copies, and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish (1960) sold 409,068 copies—outselling the majority of newly published children's books.[35]”

For our hop we have several wonderful projects for you to enjoy. We are starting here at Three Scrappy Gals. If you have come from Melissa P you are in the right place. If not please go to Three Scrappy Gals and start at the beginning you don’t want to miss any Seusstical creations.

I decided to do a bookmark because with the theme of Dr. Seuss I just couldn't get books out of my head! You will notice that I included the "Put Me In a Zoo" cover, which technically isn't Dr. Seuss as it was written by Robert Lopshire. But frankly, it's my absolute favorite book of the ones associated with the collection (Wocket in My Pocket is a close 2nd!) I kept this simple in that for this I used:
Printed pictures of Dr. Seuss book fronts found on Google Images.
Salty Ocean and Festive Berries Distress Ink.
I made the crinkle ribbon with Salty Ocean Distress Stain.
I rounded all the corners with my Fiskars corner punch because I think I probably will give this to my niece, who is currently in the Dr. Seuss stage, for her to use and I didn't want the corners to hurt her.

We have some wonderful blog candy for you to win. Check the Three Scrappy Gals blog for the awesome prize! Winner will be drawn and announced on Tuesday March 5, 2013.

To be eligible for the drawing you must:
  1. Become a follower of each blog (if you aren’t already)
  2. Comment on each blog post
  3. Leave your contact information

Then hop on over to Vicki's to see what fantastic project she has today.

Here is the complete lineup should you need it:

Festive Friday - My Cricut Craft Room

Today at My Cricut Craft Room is Festive Friday and the theme is Festive Scrapbook pages!
For this I went with something that is very festive to me. When I went to Disney World a few years ago I got my picture taken with Pooh, Tigger, and was pretty much the highlight of the trip for me! Pooh has always been my favorite book/movie/tv show from when I was little. And for the most part it still ranks really high on my adult top 10 lists.
For this I used:
Pooh, Tigger and the honey pots are all from Pooh Font. So technically these are baby Pooh and Tigger. I think they are a little bit cuter than their images from Pooh and Friends.
The paper is DCWV.
The paper flowers are Recollections.
The brads are the Hobby Lobby brand.
Be sure to head over to My Cricut Craft Room to see some great projects and all sorts of fun info!!
