Wake up and smell the CUPCAKE!

I've been playing with my new K Andrews stamps. I'm working on a few more 'how are you' type of cards. This is what I came up with.

I used Straight from the Nest for the first time because I found that I liked the cupcake on that cart the best, who would have figured? The sentiments are K Andrews Designs! The embossing and dies are Spellbinders. The ribbon I got off a card that came in the mail with my Crop Stop order. The glitter glue is Recollections.

How Ya Brewing?

I needed a 'thinking of you' card today and couldn't decide how I wanted to make it. I took a break from my contemplating to go get the mail and what do you know, I had forgotten my order from K Andrews Stamps was coming in! I ordered the 2 coffee and tea sentiment sheets. Also new this week, I bought Everyday Pop-Up Cards cart at my Hobby Lobby because it was on clearance. :) Really I didn't buy it for the pop ups (they look a little complicated), but because it has a really great assortment of pictures and phrases. Well I remembered seeing a coffee cup on and figured I would try it out!

I used spellbinders for the layers and labels. The paper is Recollections and so is the glitter glue and ink that I might have gone a bit overboard with. :) Oh well, I was having fun! The lace was originally white until I remembered there was about 1/4 cup of coffee left from this morning so now its off white! And of course the lovely sentiments are K Andrews Designs.

Howdy Y'all!

One of my friends is throwing a cowboy themed party for her 5 year old at a ranch nearby that does lessons and parties. It should be pretty cute, she's planning on making boots a requirement. :)
After some thought, this is what I came up with for the invitation.

I'm still tinkering with the variations of browns and how to work with the lasso.
I used Create a Critter for all the cuts. On the horseshoe I smudged browns and golds to give it more of a tarnished look.

No computer makes for a long week...

On Tuesday I took my laptop to a local repair place. All I needed was for them to open it up and take a can of air and get all the cat fur out of it so that it would stop overheating. They told me I would have it back by Thursday at the latest. Well, when I called Friday, because I hadn't heard from them, I found out they had just gotten to it. I didn't end up getting it back until Saturday at 7pm when they were closing. Needless to say, it's been a long week, there's only so much you can do on an iPad.

I did manage to keep a little busy this week by making invitations for two of my friends.
This one was fun because it's essentially one that I have already done but this time instead of stenciling out 25 pattens and cutting them out myself I used Cricut cuts!!

I used the Autumn Celebrations cartridge, a Martha Stewart punch/stamp, an Inkadinkadoo stamp, K&Company spider sticker and lots of glitter. :)

Fairies and Tulle

My little cousin turns 7 pretty soon and her mom, told me she's going to have a fairy themed birthday. I think it will probably be Tinkerbell themed but my Tinkerbell cartridge hasn't come in the mail yet. So, I pulled out a stamp set I got at Michaels on clearance a few weeks ago.

I used paper from a My Mind's Eye stack, a very pale green that I embossed with a Cuttlebug folder and the pale pink and cream striped paper. The sparkly ivory tulle I got from Hobby Lobby, it's pretty cool in that it's on a spool. I never knew you could buy tulle on a spool! The flowers are Recollections and the jewel dots are from a ziplock bag I found at the bottom of my embellishments drawer :)

Monkey Birthday Invite!

As I mentioned in a previous post, one of my best friend's daughter is turning 4 in about 2 months. This year for her birthday my friend is having her party at one of those gymnastic, foam pit, springing floors places. The party will actually be at the beginning of October, a few weeks earlier than her birthday, so I'm trying to get the invites together in the next few weeks.
She hasn't decided the exact day or time so I left that area blank but I think I've figured out how they are going to look!!

I used Cricut Essentials for the scalloped circle and inside circle, and Create a Critter for the monkey and vine. I ran the inside circle and vine through my NEW Cuttlebug!!! with the Sizzix Branches with Leaves folder.

S for Sarah :)

Yay! I finally have some time to get back to crafts! You would think the few weeks between summer semesters and the fall semester would be a nice break from school... I've almost had to do more for school the past week than I did the entire summer 2 semester. But, happy moment here, I'm starting my last year of undergrad on the 27th!! The only not as happy thing is I have to finish my grad school applications, lol.

My first project of the day was some cute little monogramed note cards!

I used Paper Lace 2 for the music note border and the S is from Something Remembered, I thought it kind of looked like a Treble Clef. :)

Happy Bee'Day!

First I would like to thank the Anything Goes Challenge Blog for being (randomly or not :) ) chosen as a TOP 5!! You can see the button on the right!

One of the other students at my office had her birthday yesterday. She took the last 2 days off because she also graduates tomorrow. So I thought it would be fun to have people leave her birthday cards on her desk so she can come back to them on Monday! And of course, I made mine!!
I got a new cartridge yesterday so I thought it would be fun to use it! It might be slightly juvenile for a 24 year old doctoral student, but I think she'll laugh so it's worth it!
(Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, its Create a Critter!!)

The Bee and his hat are from Create a Critter and The Happy Bee'Day is Story Book. I used Gelly Roll Glaze gel pens for his flight path and emphasizing BEE.

I mentioned a few posts ago I was trying to come up with ideas for a 4 year olds birthday invites to a place thats bouncy, gymnastic like, indoor playground. Well the place is called Jumpin' Jungle. I think the monkey on Create a Critter might just be the perfect image to base the invite around. What do you think???

I won!

My first week of this blog and entering challenges and I actually won something!
I won the Mark's Finest Papers Friends of Speedy TV challenge. You can see my badge on the right!!! I want to thank them for the opportunity to win! It was a random drawing but the feeling is pretty amazing!!!!

I made this card for my best friend with a challenge in mind, however, the unthinkable happened and my internet was down yesterday and I didn't get the chance to enter it in the one it was meant for. Sad day. That being said I found a bunch more to enter it in today!

I used the Dreams Come True cartridge. I found the eyes especially were really hard to fit correctly. It took me a few tries in different sizes to get one that worked. I cut Ariel at 3.00 and Flounder at 2.50. I decided to try something new and heat embossed the glitter that I edged the red on Ariel and the darker blue on Flounder with. I need to glue a bit less messy, Ariel's eyes look a little blood shot due to the red glitter I couldn't get out. I also still need to learn to use a ruler when I use stickers. :)

I was looking through the cartridges that I have looking for an image that I hadn't tried yet and decided on baby piglet!! I made a "Welcome Baby" card. Now I just need a friend to have a baby so I can give it to them.
In my search for challenges I found one that the premise is to use a sketch they provide. So, I used this sketch for my card:

Here's what I ended up with:

I used the Pooh Font for Piglet and just the Cricut Alphabet loaded on the E2 for the "Welcome Baby."

Tropical :)

This year for summer vacation we went to the beach! I decided today I wanted to work on a different book and I remembered that I hadn't yet started to work on one from this summer. I thought it would be fun to do a layout for it. And what do you, enter it in some more challenges!!

I used the Pack Your Bags cartridge. I love how it has generic travel images but then it also has lots of beachy tropical images. The sandal paper is Recollections.

More Challenges!!

I think I'm enjoying finding these challenges because it gives me the opportunity to do something I haven't necessarily done before! It lets me be creative while pushing that creativity in a new direction.

I made a Thank You card, except in Spanish :) so a Gracias card.

I used Ashlyn's Alphabet for "Gracias" and the tag, and Ornamental Iron 2 for the frame. The flowers are Recollections, the polka dot paper is My Mind's Eye, and I outlined Gracias with a Gelly Roll stardust pen.

I think I've got the challenge bug!
I spent at least an hour today googling to find crafty challenge blogs. I made a list!
I found this super cute blog Cute Card Thursday. Their challenge for this week is to make a paper craft that is clean and simple. I just got some new stamps from Basic Grey, I figured this was a good time to try them out!

Exploring Cricut Disney Dreaming Challenge!

On Pinterest last week I found this really awesome blog! I've been scouring Google and Pinterest for blogs and websites with Cricut ideas and tips. The blog I found is Exploring Cricut. If you haven't ever been there and you are a Cricut user, go, now. On Sunday I found out that they were posting a challenge on Monday. Monday morning when I read the post I was soo excited, the challenge is called Disney Dreaming. All you have to do is create a new project using any of the Disney cartridges. As it just so happens, my very first cartridge I bought was the Pooh Font one. Again, as it just so happens I have a trip to Disney World that I haven't gotten around to scrapbooking yet. And yet again, as it just so happens I have a picture with me and Pooh and Tigger and Eeyore.
With that many 'as it just so happens' it's fate right?
I may be new to my Cricut and I understand I'm not going to get everything right the first time, but I'm a bit anal about everything being as perfect as possible so it took me a few times to get Tigger a perfect as possible, but overall I think it turned out pretty good!!

The only cartridge I used was Pooh Font. The paper is from a DCVW Stacks, the little flowers at the bottom are Recollections, and the brads are Stapabilities Spare Parts line.

10 Ways to Use Your Vacation Postcards!

I've been on quite a few trips over the last couple of years. In other words, I've spent a lot of money on study abroad. :) Everywhere I go I buy tons of postcards. They are probably my favorite souvenir because most of the time the pictures are certainly better than the ones I take myself. Because I have soo many, I've been trying to come up with some ideas on how to use them as opposed to them just sitting in box in a closet.

1. The reason why I started buying so many is because they are by far the cheapest and easiest souvenir you can buy. You might be able to find something like a pencil or plastic keychain that might be cheaper but it will be cheap quality and might not survive the suitcase home. Put postcards in a plastic bag and lay them flat at the bottom of your suitcase or in the front zip pockets. In the plastic almost no harm can come to them!
The sad part is that this is barely a fraction of all that I have.

2. For students traveling, really for any reason, if there are people who gave you money or support of any kind for your travels, a fun way to send your thank you notes is on postcards within the first week of your leaving. Don't wait any longer than that because chances are the person has noticed that you have not sent a thank you note, this will just be a pleasant surprise to them! (If going to a country where you don't speak the language, do some research on the kind of stamps you will need, it's different in every country and if your not careful your note will just be lost).

3. We've all been there, fully charged battery and brand new memory card but we are unable to take photos because of the rules of whatever museum we are in. Or, better yet, we can take pictures, but not with flash and with the darker lighting in most museums that just means you won't be able to see the picture when you inevitably try to take the picture.
Sometimes it's easier and considerably less painful to  buy postcards of your favorite parts of the exhibit and use those to scrapbook.
I wish I had been able to take pictures in the Sistine Chapel, but understandably you can't, the paint has not weathered the years well. *The paper is DCWV Old World and the Alpha Stickers are Recollections Alpha Stax

4. For those special people you bring gifts home for, use a postcard from the place where you bought the gift and a gift tag. On the back write when you were there and what you did and the significance of what you brought back for them.

5. Lots of times, you will be able to find postcards with pictures of what the place/building/monument looked like when it was built. These vintage photos are fun to do side-by-side comparisons with your pictures of what it looks like now.
The picture on the left is what it looked like during the 40s I believe, however, the tower is significantly older than that. The picture in the middle is a cork postcard (Portugal is famous for cork), and the picture on the right is mine! *The paper is DCWV World Traveler, the Alpha Stickers are a ColorBok Alpha Stax I colored with a blue Gelly Roll Stardust pen, the rick rack is K&Company Travel Borders, and the Wave Stickers are Jolee.

6. Shadow boxes are a good way to display your travels, however, I prefer my scrapbooks. So, I found, seeing as postcards are about the same size as photos, they make great collages. You can do haphazard ones on a cork board with staples or you can put them in frames and make an arrangement with them. Your photos with you in them are wonderful, but making an arrangement of postcards is kind of like creating your own art.

7. A super cute, borderline kitschy, way to use your postcards is to find 52 that are about the same size and make your own custom deck of cards!
For the background I used my new favorite cartridge, Ornamental Iron 2. I used it again for the letters and numbers. For the suits I printed out a picture of each using the symbols function in MS Word, then I used them as stencils for cardstock.

8. An easy quick use it to turn them in to bookmarks. You can edge them with fun scissors or mount them on cardstock. You can add ribbons, borders, glitter, anything you want!! And then, every time you read a book you will look at that postcard and remember all the fun you had at that place!!

9. On Pinterest last week I saw several repins of this idea of using scrapbook paper for custom coasters. They were soo cute and then it hit me, what if I used my postcards instead of scrapbook paper?! It turned out fantastic! Because I used tiles, my sister has decided that she's going to make some to and then keep making them as she goes on her travels. Then, when someday she is ready to settle down in a home she can use the tiles as a back splash in her kitchen! Here is the tutorial I followed on The Cottage Mama. If you have never been to her blog you need to check out the rest of her posts, amazing!!
The tiles were $0.13 at Home Depot, I used the Rustoleum equivalent of the Krylon spray, and I used homemade mod podge. I've already tested them out with really condesated glasses and they work fantastic!! I had to cut down my post cards a little but I picked ones with pictures that looked almost better in tile size!

10. Some people keep travel journals, while others find it hard to sit still long enough to write about what they did every day. I fall somewhere in the middle. I found it easier to take one postcard from everything I did and everywhere I went that day and just jotted down quick thoughts about the day and the things we did. Then as I go through them to scrapbook, it doesn't matter how many months or even years it's been, I can read what I wrote and it's like that day happened yesterday.

I hope these inspire you to bring home more postcards!! If you have any other ideas or anything you do with postcards you want to share let me know!! I would love some more ideas so I can use up all the ones I have!

She's Turning 4!

I wish I could figure out where the time has gone! One of my best friends had a little girl almost 4 years and its crazy to think 4 years have already gone by?!
My job every year for her birthday is to make the invitations.
This is what I did for last year, she had a Halloween themed party as her birthday is 2 days before. (I know this may seem early, but with all the crazy its easier to start now)

This year should be easier now that I have my cricut. Those pumpkins, 25 of them, actually more like 50 because there were 25 black and 25 orange, I cut them all out by hand...ouch. The spider web stamp is Stampabilities, the jack 'o' lantern punch is Martha Stewart and the paper I bought at Hobby Lobby. I also had cute little googaly eyed spider stickers for the web they were K&Company.

This year I think my friend has planned a party at a gymnastic/bouncy room/play area type of place. I can't decide if I want to do just birthday themed or if it should be more gymnastic play time type of theme. I'll let you know what I decide!
